Where to Start

Where do I start?

We know how hard it is to lose a loved one and want to do our best to help you through each step of the process. Here is an outline of what comes next after your loved one passes.

After your loved one passes,

If your loved one does not pass in a healthcare facility, someone will need to contact emergency personnel before they can be brought to us. Once this has been done and you are ready, the personnel will contact the funeral home and we will prepare to take your loved one into our care.

If your loved one does pass in a healthcare facility, they will notify the family and ensure you have the chance to say goodbye. Every facility has a different process, but the majority will not contact the funeral home until you have confirmed that it is okay for the loved one to be picked up.

We know this transition is difficult and we understand that you need that time to grieve the loss of your loved one.

Before we meet,

Once you have scheduled your meeting with us, there will be a form to fill out to prepare for your loved ones services. This form will include personalized questions and information catered to your loved one in order to make the services unique to them.

Here is a list of important things to have prepared:

  • Full Name
  • Social Security Number
  • Date & Place of Birth
  • Parent’s Names
  • Education and occupation information
  • Clergy information
  • Insurance policy information
  • Unique hobbies and interests
  • Have life insurance and Veteran discharge papers (if applicable)

Make sure to consider the details of your loved one’s funeral such as the casket or urn, travel arrangements, flowers, who may be speaking at the services, etc. We will remind you of these things when we first meet.

During our meeting,

There are specific steps that you can take to make sure the services are personalized to fit your loved one. These are the things we will go over when we meet at the funeral home.

  • Prepare the death certificate
  • Where the services/events will be held
  • Cremation or burial
  • Pallbearers (if applicable)
  • Drafting an obituary
  • Specific photo and preferred clothing to dress your loved one in
  • Paying for the services

If you have any questions that you would like to ask during this time, please do so! We are here to help you through this process. If more questions arise when you leave, feel free to contact us.

Following the services,

Remember that it's important to give yourself time to grieve. Grieve at your own pace and take it one day at a time. Continue to surround yourself with the ones you love.
