Luis Hernandez, a beloved educator and cherished family man, passed peacefully in his sleep on February 10, 2024, in Tyler, Texas. Born on April 26, 1939, in Amarillo, Texas, Luis dedicated over 30 years of his life to teaching high school math, where he touched the lives of countless students with his passion for the subject and his unwavering commitment to their success. His excellence in teaching earned him several prestigious awards, exemplifying his dedication to education and the profound impact he had on the community.

After achieving his Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Mathematics at the University of Texas, Luis furthered his education by earning a Master's degree in Teaching from the same institution later in life. His journey in education continued as he took on the role of principal at Tyler High School, serving the student body with integrity and compassion for another 15 years.

Luis was known not only for his professional accomplishments but for his warm personality and loving nature. He was kind, outgoing, and welcoming, often seen with a smile that could brighten anyone's day. A lifelong learner, Luis was also passionate about solving problems and helping his community. His commitment to service extended beyond the classroom, as he volunteered at the local food bank, providing essential support to those in need. His culinary skills were unmatched, and he loved to cook, frequently inviting neighbors for meals that showcased his talent.

A cherished husband to Isabella Hernandez, whom he met during a football game at the University of Texas, Luis took immense pride in raising two hardworking sons, Diego and Mateo. He also found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, often assisting them with their homework and sharing precious moments filled with laughter and love. The family shared many cherished memories, including annual summer trips to Galveston Beach and visits to farmers markets, where they enjoyed exploring the local produce together.

Luis's passions extended to his love for football, reading mystery novels, and cooking, particularly his award-winning salsa verde, which earned a blue ribbon at the Smith County Fair. His contributions to his community and family will be missed dearly, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.

Luis is survived by his loving wife Isabella, and his sons Diego and Mateo. He was preceded in death by his brother Carlos Hernandez and his parents, Alejandro and Lucia Hernandez.

Viewing services will be held at Sonzini Mortuary in Tyler, TX, on February 22, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on February 23, 2024, at the same location, beginning at 11:00 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM.

Luis Hernandez leaves behind memories that will be treasured by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on through the many lives he touched.
