Dorothy Johnson

April 26, 1939 — February 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Murphy Johnson, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on February 10,2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on April 26, 1939, in Clear Lake, California, Dorothy lived a life filled with devotion, creativity, and remarkable accomplishments.

Her remarkable career as a nurse spanned four decades, during which she served in numerous capacities, including labor and delivery, wound care, emergency, and family medicine. Her dedication to the nursing profession was evident, as she not only cared for thousands but also served as head nurse, guiding and mentoring the next generation of caregivers. Dorothy's excellence in nursing earned her a prestigious award, reflecting her unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of her patients.

An alumna of California State University, Sacramento, Dorothy graduated with honors, a testament to her intellect and work ethic. It was during her college years that she met her husband, Sheldon Johnson, in an English class, where he helped pen a paper that would blossom into a lifelong partnership grounded in love and mutual respect. Together, they navigated life's adventures, exploring new cities and travelling to all 50 states and 25 countries, weaving a tapestry of cherished memories.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dorothy was a beacon of warmth and kindness. She poured her heart into her family, instilling in her children—Sandra Johnson Pike, Clifford Johnson, and Fredrick Johnson—the belief that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a grandmother, where she brought joy and laughter to her grandchildren, delighting in their company during park outings and baking cinnamon rolls every Christmas.

Creativity flowed through Dorothy, manifesting in her love for painting and drawing. She found joy in capturing the beauty of people's favorite places, gifting them with her art to celebrate their cherished memories. Her artistic flair mirrored her sweet and welcoming personality, traits that endeared her to friends and family alike. She adored her dogs, Honey and Daisy, treating them as part of the family and taking them on many adventures.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Sean Murphy, and her sister, Maude Murphy Lee, who will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. She leaves behind her loving husband, Sheldon, and her devoted children, Sandra, Clifford, and Fredrick, who carry forward her legacy of love, strength, and creativity.

A viewing to celebrate Dorothy's life will take place on February 22, 2024, at Sonzini Mortuary in Reno, Nevada, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This will be followed by a funeral service on February 23, 2024, at the same location, commencing at 11:00 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey.

In every life she touched, Dorothy Johnson epitomized what it means to live with grace and generosity. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be profoundly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
